I want to write something about my home village, because it had an anniversary about one month ago and I'm sure that this will be quite interesting for some of you.
My village is called Hillersleben and it is situated in the centre of the German state called Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt), 20 km north from its capital Magdeburg in the central east part of Germany.
Hillersleben was first mentioned with its nunnery called St. Laurentius and maybe that's the reason for the age of our village. The anniversary was about 1050 years, and that is pretty old, even for Germany...
The rest of the old nunnery is a very huge church with two towers, which is completely unusual for a small village like us.
The anniversary day of my home village was very very nice and I really enjoyed it. We have only about 800 inhabitants but nearly 300 of them created a big parade with old farm machines (the region is mostly used for agriculture) and they weared ancient clothes - it was quite funny! They made a big festival of the whole day and everyone was walking through the village to look what to see everywhere - maybe I have never seen so many people in my small village!
There was also put a memorial stone dedicated to the village's anniversary.
Here are some of the most wonderful photos, with the friendly permission of Klaus-Peter Keweloh from Hillersleben. If you want to see more pictures you can visit his homepage, which offers many nice information about the village.
