How much money should I take to Germany for1 week? 4 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I am going to Germany for a week, and my hotel is already paid for, and most of my meals. How much extra money should I take for travelling around Germany and shopping...?

How much shopping do you plan to do? Are you buying for friends and relatives, or just yourself?

I'm sorry, I don't have any suggestions. The woman here who could give you a better idea is in the process of moving, I believe, so she is too busy to check the forum and respond.

You should check websites for public transit it the areas you will be visiting to get a better idea of how much getting around will cost.

I can't personally be of mch more help than that. I'm sorry.

Well, this should not be too tricky to answer but depends on the area you want to visit. To give some examples:

0,75 L of any hard liqour from the bavarian forest ~ EUR 12
0,75 L of some really good wine ~ 15- 20 and up

Handicrafts such as cuckoo clocks etc. sell for EUR 35 UP, Foods, special Condiments ( always take some ! ) and other Stuff sell, depending on quality and region, for small money around 2 - 5.

Make extensive ( ! ) use of public transport which is WAY more effective than spending hours on getting used to traffic regulations etc.

If you can tell me the city / region of your destination, I will supply you with the information you need.

All the best,
Dan

Just finished, but very stressed and with a VERY slow access to the internet...

Well, I can only say that Daniel is completely right when he writes that it depends on the region you plan to visit - so regions which are interesting for tourists like the Black forest, big cities like Berlin, Dresden, Munich... are much more expensive than other ones, for example my home region around Magdeburg. It's nearly unknown and therefore much cheaper.

Unfortunately I have not a good imagination about the need of money for a tourist as a person who is living here. It's a little bit difficult to imagine.

You could take a quick look at the Wikipedia Entry:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Forest

If you should be in Freiburg, always find your way to Schallstadt ( which is in ~20 Minutes travel distance ) to
meet Frank at the BOETTCHEHOF - a small family - run distillery where really good Black Forest Liqours are made. Frank will happily explain the entire process and squeeze y' all into his century - old cellar and let you try the entire product range from pear liqour to the famous "Schwarzwälder Kirschwasser" a REALLY hard, 90 proof and up, clear liqour made from cherries.

Frank will explain in deep detail how his distillery works, and you'll have the chcnace to gain a "Schnaps Diplom" - a "diploma" for those who are eager on a deeper level of understanding how distilling fruits to liqour works.

Attached to the little "farm" is a good restaurant with good food, nice service and, of course, a small shop where you can buy the products; often the liqour bottles contain a whole fruit ( e. g. a whole pear ).

Check out www.boettchehof.de

In Freiburg they have something called a KONUS ticket which will allow you to use public transport in the freiburg region all the way down to even the town of Basel for FREE if you're with a host registered for that process ( nearly all good hotels are ). Car rental ( Sixt etc. ) is available.

You will want to REALLY make sure that you're familiar with winter conditions when hiring a car. Need automatic gearbox ? Please SAY so as most have manual 5/6 - Speed transmissions.

check out http://www.blackforest-tourism.com/

Any questions ?
Feel free to ask.

@ Daniel

While reading through this topic I got the imagination that your world only consists of the alcoholic specialities of Germany...?? You are writing so much of it that people may think that all people here are drunken...

Only joking, I'm sure it's a good info.

I have some more for the Black forest, although some time has passed since I have been there in 1994...

I liked the Triberger Wasserfälle, which are the highest waterfalls in Germany, it's a very great place.

We stayed in a small town called Gengenbach, which has a very familiar atmosphere and many old buildings, typical for the region.
